A stupendous confection, attempting to lure the crowds using American-style glitz, not in icing sugar but white faience. In truth, not as overblown as it may first appear but the roofline is action-packed with pairs of figures in niches (Image]). By Adamson & Kinns, 1919-21. Grade II* listed. The cinema closed in the late 1970s, since when it has been used as a nightclub and shops.
