A magnificent mid-Georgian town house, dated c1776 and possibly designed by Samuel Stretton, who had been John Carr's assistant at nearby Colwick Hall (Image]), and whose brother, William, was also an active local builder-architect. Broad five-bay quoined facade crowned by a parapet. The windows have moulded lintels and triple keystones, those on the first-floor additionally with sill band and blind balustrades. The central bay is emphasised by means of its greater width and tripartite pedimented doorcase under a tripartite window with a large fanlight (Image]). The rear has a full-height bow: Image Grade II* listed. Probably built for William Stanford, a hosiery merchant, but converted to offices as early as 1928.
