That's what is over the door. The area behind is still a functioning maintenance yard for British Waterways. The Lee Conservancy was set up in 1868 to replace the Trustees of the Lee Navigation. They assumed responsibility for the River Stort as well in 1911. Endlessly re-organized into various Boards and Commissions, its final incarnation, The Lee Conservancy Catchment Board, was wound up in 1973 when it merged with Thames Water Authority until that was subsequently privatized. These days the Environment Agency looks after the river, with British Waterways responsible for navigation.
