A fairly common damp-loving, spring-flowering plant which has a number of common names including garlic mustard, Jack-by-the-hedge and sauce-alone, and indeed it was used in sauces for fish and lamb in the C17/18, or as an ingredient for spring salads today. The leaves are best picked young before they become coarse. It was growing here near to the lake at Poyston Hall.
