The correct spelling of the name should be Sir Deo Narayan Singh, and according to the Dictionary of Indian Biography he was not awarded the K C S I (sic) until 1866. He was of the same family as the Maharajah of Benares who donated the Stoke Row well, and clearly wished to emulate his relative.
