The scrap yard at Longhill covers part of the site which, between 1865 and circa 1904, was occupied by Casebourne and Lucas, partners in cement manufacturing. The partnership was dissolved in 1882 and a limited company was formed with Casebourne and Lucas being working directors. Lucas left the company in 1885 and died in 1887. Casebourne died in 1897. The company opened a new plant in 1904 at Haverton Hill, Billingham, on the north side of the Tees when the Longhill site became too restricted. The Haverton Hill site was absorbed into the ICI conglomerate in 1928 and finally closed in 1972.
