Before the London boroughs were created in 1965 this was part of Middlesex, and whoever was responsible for the area then planted bush verges in many roads from here to the other side of Stanmore, which is now in a different borough, but these clearly were made as a local feature at the time and include the first palm trees I'd seen on a public road as opposed to someone's garden. There are also quite a few plots of bamboo further down the road which are all immaculately clipped.
