This building opened as the 1,700-seat Regal Cinema in 1936, designed in the Art Deco style by William Illingworth. The cinema was renamed Essoldo Theatre after it was taken over in 1955 and ceased showing films in the late-1960’s. It has been a bingo hall for nearly forty years.
