Stepney Drive in the 1930s was intended to form a bypass for central Scarborough and was therefore laid out to a considerable width. In order to improve the highway geometry at the junction with Scalby Road it was proposed to link through to Scalby Road via Woodlands Drive. This piece of land was acquired for the purpose but the link was never built, other than for pedestrians.
