Trinity School opened in 1858 in Church road, Croydon, as a Poor School for boys of 7 to 14, who lived in the parish of Croydon and who were 'able to read and not afflicted with any infectious or noisome disease'. Originally known as Whitgift Middle School, its current name was adopted in 1954. From 1931 to 1965, the school was located in what is now Croydon's Whitgift Shopping Centre, before moving to its present site, which was formerly occupied by the Shirley Hotel. Trinity School runs an outstanding choir - the Trinity Boys' Choir - and in 1993, the Headmaster was elected to chair the Headmasters' Conference.
