Alma Square is one of the town squares which contribute so much to the character of the town. The central green space would originally have been for the private use of the residents of the Alma Square but it is now public open space. The cast iron perimeter railings were reinstated to a very high standard about 25 years ago. The square would have been laid out about 1870.
