The complex was built for Henry Hoole, a manufacturer of firegrates, in 1860. He must have wanted to make a statement (he was also mayor) to which end he fronted his works with this grand gatehouse, a feature more commonly found at country house stables. Grade II* listed. All rather dilapidated now, but remedial work at least appeared to be underway.
