This is a rather special WI venue. It was here in 1915 that the first Women's Institute in Britain was formed, the idea having been copied from Canada. In the Welsh speaking heartland, the WI has largely been replaced by a Welsh medium breakaway organisation called Merched y Wawr (Daughters of the Dawn) formed in 1967. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merched_y_Wawr
