This is the ephemeral source of the Winterbourne, a tributary of the Lambourn in the Kennet catchment. High groundwater levels in the chalk after a very wet winter have caused flows to migrate a long way up this usually dry valley. A shadowy photographer looms over the place where the water first appears at the surface. Egypt is the name of the small group of houses behind me.
