Seen from a path which passes through East Malling Horticultural Research Station, this tree was planted to mark the 75th anniversary of the station. The plaque at the base says "This Manna Ash was planted by H.R.H. THE PRINCESS ROYAL on 10th May 1988 to mark the 75th anniversary of the Station." A research station was established on the East Malling site in 1913 and the original buildings are still in use today. It was at the instigation of local fruit growers. East Malling Horticultural Research Station has a worldwide reputation. Today the Research Centre also acts as a business enterprise centre.
