Pump chimney

This chimney is all that is left of a coal-fired pumping station that was here beside the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bath. Originally one of two that operated to push water from the River Avon up into the canal; it worked from the 1830s but mill owners on the Avon complained and pumping was stopped. By 1855 the mechanicals had been sold off, leaving just a stack that has now developed a distinct lean. The wooden stall serves snacks during the day.
