In the last couple of weeks, the Council has cleared the trees alongside the town-centre by-pass and abutting the Image This has made the steps on this public footpath a much less unsettling route down to Bourne Avenue - I believe drunks sheltered in the undergrowth. We now have a clear view of the by-pass as it goes over the Gardens (see Image, looking in towards us from the far end of the flyover). The strange-looking green and white structure to the left is Image The clearance of the trees has revealed probably years' worth of litter; among the expected items such as beer cans and carrier bags, more surprising articles include a satellite dish. Nearly three years on, vegetation has grown back substantially - see Image See Image for the view behind us along the flat part of the footpath taking us to St. Stephen's Road.
