A stately little pile, actually built for the City Council in 1752-54 to the designs of Thomas Jelly. Handsome proportions, the central three bays more widely spaced and brought forward slightly under a pediment containing a coat of arms. Good pedimented Ionic doorcase. Grade II* listed. Handsome gate piers and C20th balustrade enclosing the forecourt. Grade II listed. It appears to be in excellent condition given that it has apparently lain empty for almost thirty years. In 2013 permission was granted for conversion to a bar and hotel.
