Viewed from North Road looking towards Rydal Road along Stock Ghyll, a tributary of the River Rothay. Derived from Old Norse gil (a deep glen) a gill or ghyll is a northern English word for a small ravine, a wooded glen or a brook. The spelling ghyll was first used by William Wordsworth.
