Viewed from a boat, this group of buildings is the Canal Maintenance Depot at Hartshill on the Coventry Canal. The group, which is Listed Grade II, consists of covered dock and workshops and dates from the mid C19 in its present form, but having late C18 origins. Note the painted wood clock turret topped by concave lead roof with weathervane. The large chimney would serve the blacksmith's shop which is an integral part of canal maintenance; apparently the hearth still exists. The gable end is part of the stable block. This superb canal scene is completed by the canal crane.
