Alexandra Hall, Victoria Terrace - storm damage

This photo was taken the day after a violent storm, caused by a combination of spring tides and gale force winds, hit much of Southwest England and South and West Wales, with Aberystwyth being severely hit, with significant damage to the promenade. Here paving slabs on the promenade alongside Victoria Terrace have been ripped up and scattered across the road surface, surrounded by sand and shingle swept up from the beach by the force of the waves. Windows in Alexandra Hall in the background have been boarded up. The building itself is a hall of residence for Aberystwyth University, with students due to return for the start of term this weekend. Instead the University has told students to defer their arrival, with those already arrived being evacuated firstly to Penglais School and then to Plascrug Leisure Centre.
