This building is now divided into flats but it was originally a chapel, as indeed its design would suggest. Around the 1960's/1970's, possibly longer, it was used for worship by a strict sect of the Exclusive Brethren. I cannot remember now which one, but it was a sect that tried to have as little to do with non-members as possible. During that period I had relatives living next door, which at the time was a house not a shop. They frequently complained about being able to hear the mournful hymns of the Brethren through the walls of their house! It is very likely that the chapel was originally built for some other Christian group, but I have no information on that.
