Bury open-air market has operated since 1444. In its publicity, the market refers to itself as 'World Famous'. It is operates on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and attracts large numbers of visitors, many of whom travel on coaches from miles around. This view is looking towards the fish and meat market hall, standing between the main market hall and the extra food stalls which have been erected for the festive period. The market is particularly famed for its black pudding stalls (none of which are actually in this photograph).
