The new lifeboat station at Hemsby > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3772571 was opened in 2013. Because of the considerable coastal erosion caused by the storm surge on 5 December 2013, the lifeboat is presently unable to launch because rough seas have cut a 3 metre (10 ft) drop into the beach where it is based. The boat is launched from a tractor-driven trailer which cannot negotiate this drop, which also causes serious problems for other machinery, as is depicted here. After several failed attempts the dumper truck driver eventually tried in reverse gear, but still failed to get up the drop between beach and lifeboat station without getting stuck.
