Built in 1854 as a Diocesan training college for schoolmistresses until 1939 when it was requisitioned by the Royal Engineers who used it as a records office until 1987 when it was converted into its current use as office space. The building stands on the crossroads of the A270 (Viaduct Road/Upper Lewes Road) and Ditchling Road on its way up Round Hill.
