Image: © David Hillas Taken: 28 Sep 1974

Taken in September 1974, this photo shows London Country RF68 (LYF 419) in Dunstable Road on a private tour of bus routes in North and West Hertfordshire. The vehicle is an AEC Regal IV with Metro-Cammell 39-seater bodywork dating from the early 1950s. The destination blind on the bus shows route 364A which used to run from Hitchin to Whipsnade Zoo via Breachwood Green, Luton and Kensworth, although it never went through Studham. Instead, London Country ran route 337 from Dunstable to Hemel Hempstead via Studham until the 1970s. Nowadays, Centrebus runs weekdays only route X31 from Hemel Hempstead to Luton via Waterend, Studham, Whipsnade Zoo, Kensworth and Dunstable.
