The old original features of the hostel survive here along with some photos of the area in past times and a clock and barometer. Comfy, durable and slightly otherworldly but I love youth hostels - where else could I get accommodation for £14 pppn in a spot like this in the heart of Snowdonia? Plus the company of like-minded people, an egalitarian ethos, a micro community where cooperation, sharing and simplicity are the staples. It's great. It's what Britain could have been like if we had adopted Communism - which we would have done on a world-beating basis if we had done so at all - a utopia where ownership and status are secondary distractions. Where we wouldn't fret about negative equity, royal babies, base rate fluctuations or judge people by the car they drive or their last holiday destination. Come the glorious revolution people....
