At first glance this church appears to be a ruin, but in fact the former chancel (to the left) is still intact and now serves as the entire church (it is quite large enough for the purpose). The former nave and south aisle are roofless. There was a tower topped by a stone spire at the west end (to the right). In 1948 the spire collapsed, pulling down the tower and the nave roof. (One source says this happened in April, another that it was in the Autumn.) A separate chapel, the Bedingfield Chapel, was built on the south (far) side of the chancel in about 1500. This is still in use, and contains many interesting monuments: however it is not visible in this photo. For a view of the chapel, see Image
