The thirteenth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This thirteenth one relates to the first 25 years of the reign of Elizabeth II (i.e. 1952-1977). The Rothesay Museum opens near the Royal Bath Hotel but makes way for the beach car park and Bath/Exeter Road flyover in 1971 (see Image). An even more major road development is the town-centre by-pass, opened in 1973. Bournemouth is merged into Dorset County Council in 1974.
