Totnes Museum is housed in a medieval house; like many in the town, it occupies a burgage plot, between stone walls, such as that on the right. The house retains its medieval layout with one block facing the street, then a courtyard, a second block with the kitchen, and a garden/courtyard at the rear. The herb garden was being prepared for replanting; box hedges had been removed and there was a heap of gravel to repair the paths.
