The Antarctic explorer, Lt Henry Robertson "Birdie" Bowers was born in this Villa, in 1883 ... ... at that time it stood well apart from other buildings and was known as Bower's Folly. "Birdie" Bowers was one of four explorers who accompanied Robert Falcon Scott to the South Pole in 1912. Tragically all five men died on the return journey. His body, together Scott and another explorer was later found in their tent, tragically, only eleven miles from their supply camp. See also ... Image
