Established in 1062, St Laurence is the oldest church in Ramsgate. The building was rebuilt during the following centuries with the most significant changes being in the 16th century. The church is dedicated to the Roman Martyr, Laurence. The difference in spelling between that of the church name and village of St Lawrence is an example of how names have changed over the years.
