At one time this road was the direct route from the village of Milton to the city of Cambridge. But when the A14 (Cambridge northern by-pass) was built in 1976/77, this road was cut off and a new intersection built about 400 metres to the west. This must have been a hazardous route for cyclists, but it was not until 2004 that the bridge over the A14 for pedestrians and cyclists, seen in the foreground, was opened.
