Built by public subscription in 1822-24 as the Museum of the Literary and Antiquarian Society of Perthshire, the building commemorates Provost Thomas Hay Marshall. The architectural style is reminiscent of the Pantheon at Rome. The lower storey housed a public library and reading room, the upper storey the museum.
