Viewed from the Church Terrace entrance. The nameboard shows The Priory & Parish Church of St Nicholas & St John in the Rectorial Benefice of Monkton. The church used to be part of Monkton Priory, a Benedictine Priory granted to The Abbey of Seez in Normandy in 1098. A Celtic Christian community had existed here for many years before the Normans arrived.
