The bright low light of a September morning emphasised the colour of Nottingham Patent Brick. The almshouses have many Fothergill characteristics, such as the dark bargeboards, the tall chimney stacks and the leaded lights. The garden wall is grand even by the standards of Nottingham's more affluent Victorian suburbs.
