Looking North from Burnley Road. The Dusty Miller is reputed to have been frequented by the Cragg Vale coiners in the 18th century. It is also claimed that this pub is where they plotted the murder of William Dighton, the Excise man sent to investigate them. There is some doubt about this, as the current building was probably built about 10 years after the events described. It is more likely that the conspirators met in a building on the opposite side of the road. This was a drinking establishment called "Barbary's".
