Insulating discs on a pylon near Alloa. These discs, of high electrical resistance, prevent electrical current flowing from transmission cables to ground, and are frequently of "umbrella shape" to prevent water from forming a conductive path on rainy days. This pylon utilises twin chains of 24 insulators, typical of 400kV transmission.
