The reference to Neptune may appear strange being so far from the sea but Tipton was the centre for the manufacturing of anchors and anchor chains. This was the former Neptune Forge site, where between 1851 and 1994, Joseph Wright & Company manufactured chains, anchors, boilers and forgings for world markets.
