This column was built in 1817 following the Battle of Waterloo two years earlier, in honour of Henry Pagett, first Marquess of Anglesey, who lost a leg at Waterloo. The statue was added following his death in 1860. The column is 27 metres in height and a climb of its 115 steps is rewarded with fine views over the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll below, southwest along the Menai Strait, northeast over the Britannia and Menai Bridges, and across to the Snowdonian mountains on the mainland.
