A quirky freehouse on Wharf Hill. Internally, central bar with drinking and eating areas on three sides, wooden beams, Oriental rugs on floors, log fire, eclectic collections including pipes and miniatures; a small outside terrace. Cask ales on offer at my visit: Bowman Swift One, Cottage Golden Arrow, Flower Pots Bitter, Hopback Summer Lightning, Ringwood Best. It has been suggested that the name derives from coalyard workers at the nearby former canal wharf.
