Stable Lane was once the main eastern road out of Findon part of the main highway that linked Steyning to Arundel that remained in place until the late 18th century when the growth of Worthing meant the main routes through the village shifted to north-south following the course of the modern A24. A little way behind the photographer the highway becomes a restricted byway.
