What looks as though it could have been a former teachers' training college, is in fact just that, complete with an on-site Roman Catholic Church (visible in the distance). This residential complex used to house student teachers attending Endsleigh College, located a few hundred metres further along Beverley Road towards the city centre. The church of St Anthony and Our Lady of Mercy was given to the Middlesbrough Diocese in 1976 when teacher training studies and teaching placements no longer took place at Endsleigh College. The four residential accommodation blocks are now marketed as "The Village" and the units are rented out to University students and or others.
