Holderness House, built in 1838 for Boswell and William Jalland, leading Liberal Party members. Fellow Liberal Thomas Ferens acquired the house in 1909, bequeathing it and 6 acres of grounds in 1930 as "a rest home for poor gentlewomen in reduced circumstances".
