Victoria Street was conceived by Thomas Hamilton in 1829-34 as part of his plan for the Southern and Western Approaches to the city. It is a remarkably inventive solution to using the steep side of the Castle Rock. This western section was developed in 1843 by George Smith who had replaced Hamilton as architect to the Commissioners. Listed Category A.
