Prior to 1902, the south side of Holderness Road began at its junction with Witham and Naylor's Row. The subsequent extension of Clarence Street necessitated the demolition of several buildings at this junction. Henceforth, Holderness Road began at its junction with Blyth Street, the latter at extreme right in the photo. At No.1 Blyth Street is the much-altered early 1800s former wind-powered flax carding mill. Adjoining, at Nos.2-6 Holderness Road, an early 20th century building for the East Hull Gas Lighting Company, now occupied by Bodyshop Supplies Ltd. It displays a rare street sign; see Image Nos.8-10 were built circa 1929 as showrooms for the former Gas Board, now occupied by Machine Mart.
