Opened in 1855 as "Silkstone" by the South Yorkshire Railway, later to become part of the Manchester Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, on the line from Barnsley to Penistone, this station closed in 1959. It was rebuilt and reopened, this time named more accurately as "Silkstone Common", in 1984. View north east from a public crossing, towards Dodworth and Barnsley. The previous station was stone-built and had two tracks with parallel platforms.
