Generations of children have enjoyed playing and fishing in this pond on Cronkeyshaw Common. Not long ago, the spectre was raised of a toddler falling on his face in the water and drowning (this never actually happened): in response, the pond was drained, but, fortunately, common sense prevailed and the pond was re-watered.
