The 'Weld Chapel of Ease' was originally a single chamber chapel, consecrated in 1615, by Sir John Weld to serve the inhabitants of Southgate village. The chapel was enlarged in 1715, 1732 and 1830 as the population grew with the addition of aisles and a bell tower. When Christ Church, Southgate, was consecrated in 1862 the chapel was closed. The weather vane that originally stood on the bell tower is still in use on the roof of a garage on the North Circular Road. For details of the text at the base of the Cross refer to picture Image
