Wark Bridge (closed for repairs)

A week-long survey into the deteriorating condition of Wark Bridge has been carried out. A £35,000 corrosion examination was carried out by Northumberland County Council to identify how rapidly the bridge is rotting. There are fears that the 132-year-old metal structure may be forced to close. A three-tonnes weight limit was placed on the bridge last year as it becomes increasingly unstable, and worried residents have strung together a 1,200 name petition to help save the bridge from ruin. http://www.hexhamcourant.co.uk/news/2.2978/wark-bridge-undergoes-survey-1.722080?referrerPath=home/2.3307 MOTORISTS in Wark have been given a week’s reprieve before the village’s ancient bridge closes for a whole year. Despite signs posted around the village saying the deteriorating structure would be out of use from Monday, its closure has been delayed until February 4 due to the current adverse weather conditions. The bridge will be closed to vehicles for up to 52 weeks as Northumberland County Council works to renovate it.
